Spicer Hallfield will soon be no more – Administration fails

Well the inevitable seems to have happened, Spicers administrators are struggling to find a buyer to take on the business as a going concern and it now looks like they will be liquidated.

I first heard about this just over a week ago when I got a mail from the administrators inviting me to the site/store to purchase old stock as 20% off – I had a look but the site is so hard to use at the best of times It was not worth the effort for me.

There does seem to be a silver lining in this cloud, as a result of the redundancies, there is a spin off company that has developed.

Former factory manager Martin Abraham has set up his own business, MTA, at Haddenham Airfield, which like Spicer produces photography albums.

It currently employees eight of his old colleagues, and Mr Abraham belives their experience will help his venture to flourish.

He said: “First and foremost I want to keep as many jobs as I can and from the response we have had so far that is definitely achievable. The key thing is always going to be the people, because you can’t just throw an album together.

“The people Spicer Hallfield let go have got many many years of experience of how to produce good quality albums and that is what I am capitalising on.”

I have posted before on earlier blog.
Have at last had some redundancy payment from the Goverment.
But no Loyalty bonus as yet.
Sorry to see the same predicament for Bradford production staff, many of whoom where taken on this year as replacement for Haddenham staff.
So glad none of us moved upto Bradford as management hoped.
I am sure MTA will be a small alternative, with skilled staff etc.
Have continued in temporary work in Haddenham so lucky in that field.

    • It’s good to hear from you again Rich and glad you have got somewhere – Loyalty wise, there are not many companies that would honor that nowadays i’m afraid but I really hope you get something from it.

As for the future, could you not work at MTA as well? I hope the phoenix rises from the ashes and some good comes out of all this, good luck to all staff (ex or current) and hope that everyone gets sorted soon
